Daily Devlog #6

New Challenges Don't Stop

Apparently I don't understand the meaning of the word "daily". Hm.

Irregardless, I am working on the game on a daily basis, despite not making daily entries into the DevLog. Most of the time, I finish working late and I just knock out, but this week is going to be different. This is because we are reaching forward to a new milestone that is bringing the game to players hands. We have a playable Demo under construction RIGHT NOW.

Okay, where do I start? The Demo has been on my mind for a while now, considering how much of the main 75% of the game has been done. It's always a matter of finding bugs, or noticing things that I don't like, or doing something weird that then results in me finding something that I don't like. I finally got to the point where I could do a full playthrough to the 75% mark without finding any issues. Of course, this is not the version I would have available for players. For that, a new version would have to be made since there will be things blocked off or cut to avoid spoiling the game.

So that's what I started doing. I moved the whole project to a new file and I trimmed a bunch of blueprints that would not be available for a Demo version of the game. Little did I know that would bring about a host of problems of their own. Take the "Technician" character for example. I have deemed this to be a CURSED character, because no matter what I do, it will not "Cast to Main Character". It just won't. Nothing I do works, if the blueprints suddenly encounter a "Cast to Main Character". I was furious! It's the kind of thing that makes me question if I'm doing anything right at all. Everything works! And then when it comes to the Technician, he's just like, "No."

So I finally had to use the workaround I made for the sound of the key that you are supposed to get in the game. I used a separate actor that I knew the Technician could communicate with without any reason to deny me! Using this new actor, I casted to the Main Character and FINALLY got the right blueprints to work. It only took me a few HOURS to figure that out. It was supposed to be at least an hour. For crying out loud...
